**This post originally appeared on my personal Facebook page, but I’m sharing all my daily roundups here to document our quarantine journey.**
Monday, Monday. Today is Monday, March 23, 2020. Captain’s log: It was Monday.
First things first: Gov. Inslee issued a stay-home order today in effect in 48 hours. We’re to stay home for 2 weeks. Things in WA aren’t great. They aren’t great anywhere.
Henning has to go into work tomorrow to pick up a few more things and do some things he can’t do at home. I really don’t even know what Henning does. Something about physics.
We got incredibly lucky and picked up groceries today. I couldn’t believe that we were able to get a pick up spot. We are so, so grateful. We can stay home for probably 3 to 4 weeks. We haven’t hoarded much, but we’re well stocked. Niels needs his cereal and milk. And if you ask for it, you better eat it. Also? Not having much of an appetite helps, I guess. I know how privileged this is. I know.
I have a hair appointment in a few weeks. I’m going to message my hair stylist to bill me even though I won’t be getting my roots done.
I’m not sure what the kids did most of the day. They played upstairs while Henning and I worked. Well, Henning worked and had many, many meetings. I stared at my computer screen and ran worst case scenarios in my head. However, at one point I was carrying my laptop from room to room, watching Margaret and Niels fight and call each other names. It was like reality TV. Real Isolated Kids of Washington State.
I feel like Alexa. Niels keeps saying: “Mommy! Find my Batman!” “Mommy! Bring me a snack.” We don’t even have an Alexa.
Margaret has set up community infrastructure for her Baby Academy. They go to school. She doesn’t.
The bread Margaret and I made is amazing and we’re making more tomorrow.
It was too windy to go outside. Damn you, desert.
Margaret had a Zoom meeting with her class today! She was so damn happy to see all her friends. I almost cried.
I have a Zoom meeting tomorrow with a colleague. I might untape my computer camera and show up “in person.” Wild times here.
The kids made something with leftover pizza dough. It involved a lot of kitchen tools and sesame seeds. I don’t make the rules.
Oh, and while we’re shutting everything down, I’m canceling real pants. I can’t deal with a judgmental waist band and a pandemic at the same time. We all have our limits.
Be well, all. All who can, stay home. Virtual hugs. Good night.
